Some Of The Craziest Things Mechanics Have Seen On The Job
You might be able to change your own tires or have your husband swap out a wiper blade when yours breaks, but most people have to rely on a mechanic at an auto shop to fix their car when something goes wrong.
And there's a lot that can go wrong on a car, it turns out. We're not sure what some of these people have been doing to their cars, but these mechanics have seen some pretty crazy things come through their garages.
Are You Pulling My Leg?
What's that you're looking at in place of the gear shift? Oh, that old thing is an artificial femur.
The man who owns this car bought the artificial joint from a yard sale after it was removed from someone before being cremated, and he chose to use it in his car.
It Takes A Village
It takes a village to raise a child, and in this case, that means alerting the parent driving ahead of you if one of their kids manages to fall out during the drive to school.
Otherwise, don't even think about honking.
Our Tires Don't Look Like That
What does someone have to do to their tire to have it end up looking like you stuffed softballs under the rubber?
Talk about needing to let some air out of the tires.
Take It Back To The USSR
You're telling me this tire was made sometime before 1991?
That must be one old car, or someone got ripped off when they bought their new set of tires last year.
Tires Shouldn't Be Blowing Bubbles
Blowing bubbles is an activity that's exclusively meant for the children in our household, and maybe some adults if they feel like joining in.
Tires should never be joining in on the fun.
Cause For Concern
Someone actually turned over a screwdriver at an auto shop when they were asked to leave the keys to the car... A screwdriver.
It was supplied for an early '80s Chevy van that was in for brake concerns, but we have bigger concerns.
Tires Shouldn't Be Smooth
Owning a car is expensive, and sometimes you have to make a decision about whether it's worth your money to replace something or push it to another month or until next year.
If your tires look like this, don't put it off.
There Goes The Deposit
Police officers apparently rented this car from a rental company and saw a bit of action while in town.
This action happened to leave a dozen or so bullet holes in the car, but you can fix those, right?
Throw The Whole Car Away
Even if half of these lights are an easy fix, the other half are probably more complicated. It'd be cheaper to throw this car away and buy a brand new one.
Get yourself a fresh start.
This Job Isn't Going To Be Cheep
It's a good thing they found the nest before anything could happen to it, so they weren't left dealing with scrambled eggs under the hood.
Let's hope the mama bird can find her way back to the car.
Gee, I Wonder Why
One could argue that most cars would vibrate if you're driving them at 130 miles per hour or more than that.
Seems like the simple fix would be to stop your drag racing hobby.
Well, That's A Nice Surprise
Considering some of the other wacky things that mechanics have come across when getting into people's cars, finding two puppies sitting on the floor of the passenger seat would be a pretty nice surprise.
Hope these little darlings weren't too far from home though.
Keeping Warm In The Winter
This is one of those times where you would open the hood, see this guy chilling there, and immediately close the hood back up.
Whatever needed to be fixed isn't urgent enough to deal with this.
Protection From The Elements
That right there is 1" thick glass on the window of a Chevy Tahoe that is used by a private security company.
It protects them from the elements, and maybe from a few other things too.
This Is Why He Needed His Brakes Checked
In case there was any doubt about the status of his brakes, the fact that he crashed through the front window of the store when coming to pick up the brake pads confirms it.
That doesn't belong there.
And He Drove It To The Shop
I'm not sure what the backstory behind this missing tire is, but we're more concerned about the fact that he chose to drive this car to the shop rather than calling a tow truck.
But hey, this thing still had a couple miles left in it.
We Love A Self-Aware Owner
People who choose to drive a Prius are also choosing to probably be ridiculed by their friends and family.
At least this driver knew what he was getting himself into and beat everyone to the punch line.
Those Darn Child Locks Are Too Tricky
Look, those child-lock windows can be pretty tricky, especially if it's the first time you've had a car with that option.
You might not even realize you hit the lever until you're at the garage complaining that your windows are stuck.
This Isn't Concerning At All
Do you think they only put this warning in the car for the mechanics, or is it something that they drive with all the time as a personal reminder too?
I hope the former. I really, really, hope that.
Probably The Most Uncomfortable Gear Shift
Either this person is a grade-A psychopath or they found a creative way to repurpose their Halloween decorations.
Either way, it is always nice to have a hand to hold.
He Is Always With You
Spread the word of God however you want, but doesn't it feel like a bit of a waste to have this tucked under the hood?
Were they overly concerned that their mechanic needed a little religion in his life?
Reading The Speedometer Is Overrated
I'm all for decorating your car and making it as fun or comfortable as you want.
The problem is her fuzzy steering wheel is so big that there's no possible way she could read anything happening on her dashboard, like the speedometer.
Tearing Up The Road
Or tearing up the tires, I guess. The man's excuse for returning the leftover shreds of a tire to a rental car shop? "He had a plane to catch."
He clearly didn't care about his deposit.
Didn't Know He Was Back There
A customer forgot to mention that their four-legged friend was along for the ride and sitting in the backseat of the car, so that came as a bit of a surprise to the mechanic.
How could the customer forget about their pet?!
Life Is Miserable
When they asked you to "report on life," that probably wasn't what they meant.
You can expect to be getting a call from Human Resources to talk about that particular note.
Flapping Around
The customer brought her car into the shop complaining that she hears a "flapping noise" coming from the driver's side of the car whenever she has her windows down.
It didn't occur to her that it might be the flag flapping.
Paying The Bills
Paying a car repair bill that's more than $1000 in $1 and $5 bills is going to raise some suspicion.
The woman apparently said he worked at Sonic, but we're confused about why she wouldn't have this in a bank by now.
She Can Speak To Whales And So Can Your Car
Sometimes your car is going to start making funny noises and you're going to have to describe those noises.
You've got to get creative with it so they fully understand what you're trying to show them.
That's Going To Cost You
It's not the accident that was the craziest part of this customer request.
The customer who brought in this very dented car requested that it be fixed to look like new and that they do it for under $1500. Good luck with that.
Jesus, Take The Wheel
It's more than a Carrie Underwood song; it's also the method these people are using to keep their car driving the speed limit.
Of all the places to put these photos, this seems like a bad choice.
It's Ruining His Life
Maybe the wife did this on purpose.
You had us going in the first half of this comment, but if he's just sneaking out in the morning to go hunting then we'll allow it.
