The Strangest Things Ever Seen By The Road
Road trips are a great way to see things you've never seen before. Usually this means new cities, landmarks, or tourist attractions - but the roads also feature other rare sights that are totally unexpected.
We've compiled some of the weirdest, wackiest, and just plain odd things that people have taken snapshots of while out on the roads.
Roman down the road
At one point in history, it was common to see horse-drawn carriages on roadways. Going further back, one may have even seen chariots on a regular basis.
However, there's no doubt that in the 21st century, it's a little odd to see a couple of Roman centurions on a US interstate.
Shark gaining on fish
The Filet-o'-Fish car is cute and the shark bus is creative, but the true magic happens when the shark bus is seemingly chasing the fish sandwich.
It's just a shame that we'll have no idea what happens if the shark eventually catches up.
My protector
If you're the nervous type, highway driving - with its fast speed limits, multiple lanes, and tractor trailers - can be downright intimidating.
Sometimes, you just want a protector - and this motorcycle-riding Captain America is the perfect protector.
Whole day ruined
This road crew was laying down new tarmac when a rogue driver saw the fresh surface and thought it might be a shortcut.
Well, it did succeed in getting the car past the construction equipment - by about 50 feet.
Carrying the load
Whatever you're hauling, it should always be strapped down safely. This toy could probably ride safely in the cab, but in this case, it's strapped to the truckbed.
Sure, it's a weird sight, but so long as it's properly secured, no one should be too concerned.
He has a whole collection
Smokers tend to toss their cigarette butts out the window, which is kind of off-putting.
This driver instead sticks the butts in his rear-view mirror. It's an entirely different kind of off-putting, but at least he isn't littering.
Funeral home with all the options
This hearse doesn't appear to have a coffin in the back, and instead is hauling something fairly unexpected: a functional wood-chipper.
This is either a random coincidence or a new alternative to burial or cremation that the funeral home is testing out.
Parkour!
We've seen people hitch free rides on trains and buses before, but this seems like an especially daring move.
What's even more surprising is the apparent age of this woman who's pulling a full Assassin's Creed on this random city bus.
Don't leave a snake in a hot car
To be fair, we don't know if this car is hot or not, and it seems like the snake is doing fine.
If nothing else, this should serve as an effective deterrent against anyone who might consider breaking into the vehicle.
There, I fixed it
If your car gets dented, there are two options: fix the dent or don't fix the dent.
Actually, there's a third option: don't fix the dent, and double down by adding Thor's Hammer or another appropriate prop to make the dent seem more natural.
Highway of the living dead
It's unsettling to see this in a zombie movie, but it's more goofy than anything to see this in real life.
Even if this was a real zombie, what's he going to do? He has no legs and is on the verge of falling off entirely.
Read the plate
This Iron Man-themed car is about the sleekest, most expensive-looking vehicle one can imagine.
The best part, though, is the license plate. If you zoom in, you'll see that it reads 'HUMBLE.'
Not sure what to make of this
Some cars on the highway project a vibe, whether it's carefree, serious, or businesslike.
This van carries an entirely different vibe, and that vibe is pure evil.
Strange passenger
In theory, it's possible to cheat the carpool lane cameras by creating a reasonable facsimile of a human and putting it in the passenger seat.
Is this scarecrow-looking dummy going to work? We have no idea, but the driver will find out if they get a ticket in the mail.
That oughta work
It's tough to know how to transport things that are awkwardly sized or shaped.
Generally, there are only a few right ways to do things, and a million wrong ways. We'll let you guess which category this one fits into.
Smokey and the Bandit
Truckers spend long hours on the road, and this life can get lonely.
When the companionship of the CB radio won't suffice, some truckers might opt for a pet - even if it's an unorthodox choice.
Truck with a bonus feature
Somewhere along this truck's route is the site of a fire hydrant that's been ripped out of the ground.
Fortunately, it'll be easy to find. Just look for the plume of water spraying into the air.
To be fair, it's a great sticker
Bumper stickers can convey any message, but the message they rarely state is the one that's most obvious.
This sticker says the quiet part out loud: the only thing this sticker accomplishes is blocking the view out the window.
Sick grind
Guardrails along the road are intended to keep cars safe, but if you've ever played a skateboarding video game, you know what those rails ought to be for.
This is a car, not a skateboard, but either way, there's little doubt the driver has played a few Tony Hawk games.
Bad driver
Do you ever encounter a bad driver out in the wild and make sure to get a good look at them before deciding on your next action?
Well, anyone who was considering honking at this car will likely think twice, because no one could honk at such a cute doggo.
Interesting mod
The car modding scene has existed for about as long as cars have existed, and along the way we've seen concepts ranging from brilliant to atrocious.
It's hard not to give this vehicle points for creativity, even if it does look a little unsustainable.
Car and a half
Sometimes, you really like a certain car, and wish that you could have a duplicate.
However, this isn't always financially possible, so buying .5 of your desired car is a reasonable compromise.
If it fits, it fits
Once more, we see a driver getting creative in their efforts to carry something big in their small car.
So long as there's absolutely no one in the adjacent lanes, this plan might just work.
Bringing it back to Thor
What good is Thor if he's so forgetful that he constantly forgets his hammer?
Not very good, in our opinion. Fortunately this pickup truck driver is bringing the hammer back to the hero.
It'll get worse before it gets better
There's something absolutely breathtaking about seeing a driver who's driving on their rims.
It's chaotic, full of sparks, and dangerous as anything - but somehow mesmerizing all the same.
Carception
This looks like a Google Street View image that's been awkwardly stitched together, but it's actually a car that's been awkwardly stitched together.
It doesn't look good, it's probably not road-worthy, and there's really no need for this - but in any case, it's a rare sight.
Bananamobile
Oscar Mayer Weinermobiles have been on the road for decades, but they aren't the only food-themed vehicle out there.
Whether this guy is promoting a banana-centric business or is just a fan of bananas in general, he's fully committed with his car.
Snow day
This is a classic sight for anyone who lives in a snowy climate: the driver who couldn't be bothered to clear the snow off their roof.
While this is an especially egregious example, it can be dangerous to have even just a small amount on the roof.
Stag party
Convertibles are great for drivers who want to feel their hair in the breeze as they cruise the open road.
They're also great, evidently, for drivers who want to take their deer for a steer.
Small navigation error
Have you ever driven onto a restricted road? Everyone's been there, and usually it's a simple matter of reversing and correcting course.
This driver found themselves halfway up a pedestrian walkway before they realized just how badly they'd messed up.
