These Things Belong In The Dumpster, Not Your Home
We all own plenty of things that don't need to linger around the house any longer. Imagine getting rid of the junk and making extra space for other items you want.
If you don't know where to start, then don't worry, we've got you covered.
Board Games With Missing Pieces
There are few things more irritating than finding out you have a missing puzzle piece after you've put in all that work.
Honestly, who wants to play Monopoly without the money sack piece?
Old Notebooks
Old notebooks you don't use deserve a place in the garbage.
If you haven't bothered to look inside of them in years, then they will hold no value for you in the future, so toss them.
Receipts
Keep up with the times. With pretty much everything cash-related going digital, you don't need to keep receipts anymore.
They're all one click away in most cases, and your bank keeps track of your transactions.
An Earring Without Its Mate
If you purchased a set so you could wear both at the same time, there's no point in keeping one alone.
Unless you buy the same pair again, then you can have a backup!
Obsolete Items
Are you really going to use that floppy disk in the year 2020? Give it a rest and get rid of it.
There's no point in it anymore, and you know that.
Tarnished Bed Linen
Out of respect for yourself, you shouldn't have bed linen for more than five years.
Go ahead and make your sleeping experience a little more enjoyable with a new set.
Unneeded Gifts
You get them quite often: the gifts that you won't ever use in your life.
Sure, the person who gave it to you meant well, but what are you going to do with a cardboard miniature lion?
Your Elementary Hobbies
Okay, you liked coloring in the 4th grade, but you haven't picked up a colored pencil since then.
You're now 27, so it's about that time you toss those things away.
...Wire Hangers
We hate to break it to you, but it's that time.
They are very impractical now, thanks to the existence of better hangers. Go grab yourself some wooden ones and call it a day.
Empty Flower Pots
What do you think will happen by keeping all those empty flower pots?
Not a thing, that's what. Create some extra space and get rid of the pots before you amass more.
Those Old Chargers
If you've had a few phones throughout your life, then you probably still have some of the old chargers.
If that's the case, you can feel safe knowing you don't need them anymore.
Old Building Materials
You've had to buy things like this in the past for minor fix-ups around the pad.
You keep them for years expecting to use them again, but it never happens.
The Old Toaster Or Any Appliance
There's no point in keeping old appliances if you've already replaced them.
You don't even have to throw these away, you can try to sell them for all we care, but say goodbye.
Clothes That Don't Fit Anymore
Do we need to explain it any more? Do you have someone in mind that wants hand-me-downs?
Donate your older clothes to charity if that makes you feel better about it.
Presents From Your Ex
Let's look at this realistically now.
If you don't plan on getting back with this ex, you shouldn't keep any present he or she gave you. Why do you need a reminder?
That Old iPod
Your best bet with an old iPod is to sell it. If you don't already have an iPhone, most every other phone serves as a media player.
Plus, you can find all those old tracks on streaming services.
A Sock Without A Match
For socks, one is the loneliest number. You can't keep both feet warm with only one sock.
It just doesn't work that way, so you need to throw out any that are missing the other.
The Junk In The Infamous "Junk Drawer"
No matter what country or cultural background you are, we all have this one messy drawer.
Do yourself a favor and tidy it up by tossing out all the things you don't need.
Worn Gym Shoes
Do you want to sustain an injury?
If you answered no, then you need to say farewell to your old and tattered gym shoes. Rolling an ankle isn't any fun, so do this quickly.
Hotel Toiletries
No one cares that you take a few hotel toiletries every so often. We don't question if you have a whole collection of them.
They're only taking up space if you have regular toiletries readily available.
Old Cellular Devices
Much like with the old chargers, you should get rid of your old phones too.
What good do they bring and what do you need them for at this point?
Old Makeup
Unless you want to find something that looks like this image here, throw away your old makeup.
This looks disgusting and you don't want to mistakenly use something like this.
Old Cookbooks
If there's a recipe that you really liked from an old cookbook, then chances are you've memorized it already.
Old cookbooks collect dust faster than the top of your bookshelves.
Older Jewelry
Are you a fan of jewelry and don't want to part ways with any older relics?
Well, if you haven't worn a set in years, you probably won't next month.
Old Medication
The chances are high that your old medication isn't safe to use anymore.
Many of those pills and potions have expiration dates, so quit saving that Mucinex for a rainy day.
Old Sunscreen
Once sunscreen expires, it does you no good when you go outside on a sunny day. We've all saved bottles of sunscreen and didn't use them for years.
Check the date on it and toss it away.
Spices From Ages Ago
Check your cabinet for any old spices.
We once knew someone who kept their spices with them after moving three times and tried to use the garlic salt after 6 years.
Old Brushes
If you want the best for your hair, then you shouldn't use dirty or old tools on it.
That includes brushes, combs, and hair ties. Find the nearest trashcan and put them in there.
Broken Technology
Unless "you know a guy" that can fix old technology, then you're doing yourself no favors by keeping them around.
Even if you know someone, if you replaced it, it's not of much use to you.
Landline Phones
We're not in the '90s anymore, so get rid of that landline phone you might have.
The bundle your internet service provider has to offer isn't worth keeping one of these devices.
Toys The Kids Don't Play With Anymore
While you want to hold onto your kids' old items as long as possible to relish in the memories, keeping all of them is a bit cumbersome.
Organize to donate some of them and only keep a few special ones.
Tupperware You Can't Find The Lid To
We've all been there: you've already put the leftovers into a container and you can't find the matching lid.
Sort through the dreaded Tupperware cupboard and get rid of the containers that don't have matching lids.
Worn Out Clothing And Linens
Even if it's your favorite blanket or sweater, there is a point where you need to admit that they are a little worse for the wear.
While some holes and rips can be repaired, some things just need to get put in the trash.
Pens That Don't Work Anymore
You scribble with it and it works for about two seconds before being a bit dry. You put it back down only to face the same problem a week later.
Toss out pens that have started to or already are dried out.
Hair/Body Products That You Didn't Like
Have you ever tried a new shampoo, razor, or face wash that just didn't work the way you wanted it to and then not known what to do with it?
You might just toss them in the cabinet under the sink, but really you should throw them out.
Damaged Goods/Equipment
You have that one soccer ball that goes flat minutes after you pump it up no matter what you do. Why are you keeping it?
Get rid of items that are damaged or don't work.
"Almost Empty" Containers
Whether it's a nearly finished tube of foundation or the upside down ketchup bottle in the fridge with only three drops left, stop keeping it around!
Toss out the "almost empty" containers that you'll realistically never finish.
Old Dishrags And Towels
This is a PSA that the old overused, dirty dishcloths you have in your kitchen probably need to be replaced by a new set.
Eventually, no number of runs through the washer can save them and you need to let them go.
Holiday Specific Clothing And Accessories
Even if you love to get festive for specific holidays, do you really need to keep shirts and accessories you only get to wear once a year in your already overstuffed closet?
Opt for more neutral items that can fit the holidays but also daily life.
Books You Have/Will Not Read
I will be the first to admit that I have trouble giving away books, but there is no need to keep ones that you have no intention of reading again (or reading at all for that matter) and only keep your favorites.
Donate them!
Old Greeting Cards
Unless the card contains a sentimental message from the giver, there is no reason to keep old greeting cards.
Put them in the recycling bin and be rid of that clutter.
Extra Buttons For Clothes You Don't Have Anymore
You know how jackets, shirts, and pants come with those extra buttons in a tiny ziplock bag in case one or two fall off?
If you no longer have the item the buttons were intended for, toss them out.
Take-Out Menus
Take-out menus for your favorite restaurants may have made sense in the '90s, but there is no reason to keep a stack of them now that every menu is pretty much accessible online.
Toss them.
Stretched Out Clothing/Hair Ties
I don't care if it was your favorite shirt or scrunchie—if an item is stretched out, you're never going to be able to successfully wear it again.
Put it in the garbage.
VHS Tapes/DVDs If You No Longer Have The Player
You may still have a lot of nostalgia surrounding your collection of Disney VHS movies, but the reality is that, without a VCR, you're never going to be able to use them again.
Get rid of them.
Outdated Calendars
I don't care if you really loved the photography featured in your 2012 calendar—the item is obsolete.
If you want to keep certain pictures, consider ripping them out and filing them and getting rid of the actual calendar.
T-Shirts From Random Events
Be realistic with yourself: when or where will you ever wear the free T-shirt you got for participating in the 2008 annual Thanksgiving five-mile road race for breast cancer again?
You're never going to wear it again.
Sports Trophies
This might be hard to hear, but no one cares that you were the MVP of your high school football team or that your team won the baseball league when you were in middle school.
NO. ONE.
That Weird-Smelling Hand Cream
Maybe it was included in a gift basket. Maybe it was a stocking stuffer.
It does not matter: you will never finish that tube of weird-scented hand cream that's been sitting on your desk.
Outdated Prescription Glasses
Maybe one old pair of glasses as a spare makes sense, but glasses over a certain period of time/change in prescription are practically useless since you can no longer really see with them.
Get rid of them, please.
